The Little Schoolhouse

We are committed to providing high-quality, individualized, child-centered education for every student in our care. Our goal is to nurture a lifelong love of learning while supporting each child’s unique strengths, interests, and pace of development.

We strive to cultivate independence, confidence, and curiosity, while also focusing on the growth of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. Through thoughtful guidance and a supportive environment, we empower children to become capable, engaged learners who are prepared to navigate the world with creativity and resilience.

Our Story

We are a small group of parents and teachers united by a deep passion for education and a commitment to supporting children and families. Our journey began with a shared desire to be more actively involved in our children’s lives and learning experiences. What started as a humble, one-room schoolhouse with two teachers and 22 students quickly grew into something meaningful and transformative.

Drawing from a blend of Montessori principles, public school experience, and homeschooling approaches, we created a hybrid model that honors both structure and flexibility. We partnered closely with parents, supporting the learning happening at home while providing a rich, collaborative environment at school. Our days were intentionally designed to include not only academic growth, but also meaningful time for play, creativity, and exploration in nature.

What we witnessed was powerful—children who were engaged, confident, and excited to learn, and families who felt connected and supported. It became clear that what we had built was special. We believe this model can serve many more families, and we are committed to growing in a way that preserves the heart of what made it so impactful from the beginning.

Foundational Beliefs of

THE LITTLE SCHOOLHOUSE

Each family in our cooperative brings a unique approach to their child’s education, and that individuality is deeply valued. Parents play a vital role in shaping their children’s learning journeys, and the school is committed to supporting them in that role.

The model is built on partnership—working alongside families to provide guidance, resources, and encouragement so they feel confident and successful in their educational choices. Each family’s voice, values, and goals are respected, recognizing parents as their child’s first and most important teachers.

Through this collaborative approach, a learning environment is created where children thrive, families feel empowered, and education becomes a shared and meaningful experience.

At the heart of the philosophy are a few core beliefs:

  • Children are inherently good, creative, curious, and kind

  • Children thrive in environments where they are given freedom to choose

  • Slow, real-life experiences and outdoor play are essential to emotional well-being

  • Children offer a unique perspective that adults can observe and learn from

  • Teachers serve as guides who provide a framework for children to lead and express ideas

These principles guide the school’s approach, helping cultivate a space where curiosity is nurtured, independence is encouraged, and children grow into confident, capable learners.
